Leadership Interview with Wu Qiang, Vice President of UFIDA Software Co. Ltd.

Frontier Journal(FJ) : Every company has a story, what's UFIDA's story in brief?

Wu Qiang (WQ): UFIDA was started by its two co-founders in 1988, and its main business was focused on providing accounting software applications and related services to its clients. During the past eighteen years, UFIDA has managed to growing into a full-fledge public company with its headcount totaled in 5,000, and now is ranked as No.1 ERP vendor in China. Meanwhile UFIDA is as ranked as No. 1 local ERP vendor in Asia excluding Japan. The story of UFIDA's growth is a snapshot of the rapid growth of china software industry with huge potentials. Right now UFIDA is aggressively exploring oversea market, and aspires to be one of major players in the global ERP market

FJ : What are UFIDA's unfair advantage and core competencies as an ERP solution provider?

WQ: Firstly UFIDA is keen in riding with the market dynamics, understanding its clients' changing requirements as time goes. UFIDA develops and markets its products based on such understanding in order to meet the demands of its major clients, no matter what stage their business lies on. UFIDA's accounting software applications, ERP systems, and application systems for group companies, are just a few examples of such endeavor. Secondly UFIDA is committed to serve its clients with outstanding customer service in a timely and professionally manner, this is achieved through its forty-one branches and offices covering major cities in China and oversea branches.

FJ: Could you elaborate UFIDA's positioning, key strategies and tactics in being successful in today's highly competitive ERP market?

WQ: UFIDA is positioned as the leading ERP vendor in the Asia Pacific region. UFIDA targets small and medium enterprises in the ERP space by providing them comprehensive, integrated ERP systems. UFIDA's key strategies include but not limited to: ERP awareness campaigning for streaming ERP deployment process with small and medium enterprises; reengineering its products in a Standardized, Industry Vertical Specific, Customizable way to meet the demands of its large customer portfolio; exploring the market opportunities in other parts of Asia beyond Mainland China, such as Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia among others

FJ: In ERP business, what is the most critical factor clients care about? What is the most critical factor an ERP vendor cares about?

WQ: According to our understanding, what clients care about most is the success rate of ERP deployment. No matter how significant an ERP project is, all clients pay a great attention to whether the project can succeed or not, and whether they could get their Return of Investment (ROI) or not. As a leading ERP vendor, UFIDA must ensure that it could show the results to its clients immediately. To achieve such goal, UFIDA has made tremendous efforts by migrating to faster deployment methodology, providing more flexible system customization platform, just to name a few, in order to meet the demands of various requirements of its clients

FJ: What are UFIDA's Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT)?

WQ: In terms of strength, UFIDA has dominated the ERP market in China with a broad range of products and a large portfolio of customers, and this could be served as the corner stone for UFIDA to grow further. In terms of weakness, currently in global market space, UFIDA still needs to work hard on branding. In terms of opportunities, UFIDA aspires to be a world class ERP vendor by taking the opportunity of china as well as Asia being the manufacture hub in the world

FJ: Do you envision any Strategic Inflection Point (SIP) in your business within your targeted market? If yes, how do you cope with that, I mean before it happens and after it happens?

WQ: In my opinion, the ERP market will be surging. Globally more consolidation will happen. In the meantime, there will be emerging world class ERP players from Asia, and UFIDA will catch this strategic inflection opportunity, and strive to be a world class ERP vendor

FJ: UFIDA starts to penetrate oversea markets such as those in south east Asia and north east Asia, how about your dealing with North America market and Europe market?

WQ: Yes, UFIDA has been exploring oversea market outside Mainland China. UFIDA is focusing on Asia market right now, including Hong Kong, Japan, South-east Asia. So far UFIDA has made significant progress, and gained valuable experience in those regions. During next two or three years, UFIDA will keep on focusing on Asia region, expand to regions like Middle East and Mid-West Asia besides currently targeted regions mentioned above. North America and Europe markets shall be the UFIDA's next target. UFIDA will recruit some local partners there for collaboration

FJ: What else in brief would you like to bring into our readers' attention?

WQ: I have a fascinating news to share with you: The Phase I of UFIDA Software Park is close to be completed, which is a major landmark for UFIDA's further growth, and that also indicates the start of UFIDA's long journey towards a world class enterprise. UFIDA Software Park is one of the largest independent software parks in Asia with a capacity of allowing 12,000 staffs working together simultaneously.
