 Local Globalization and Global Localization

     Editor in Chief

Just back from Suzhou in attending eMEX China 2004. Suzhou, a city neighboring Shanghai with only about two-hour driving distance, is well known for its excellent investment infrastructure in attracting many Fortune 500, Taiwanese companies and local industry leaders. During past ten years, Suzhou has been evolving from a small town renown for its well-kept Chinese style garden to a main high-tech hub in China. Now back to Shanghai, China's first-ever Formula One event, was held here in last month, and the F1 event gonna be held annually from now on. Another recent fascinating event in Shanghai is NBA pre-season game between Huston Rockets and Sacramento Kings in this month. Both F1 and NBA attempt to harness racing car¡¯s and basketball's surging popularity in China.

Of course neither Suzhou nor Shanghai is an exception. In China, there are several dozens of cities like Suzhou and Shanghai that are benefited by a wave we call Global Localization. In recognizing the fact that, China's foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows surpassed those of the United States since 2002, making China the world's leading destination for foreign funds, it is inevitable that Global Localization in China gonna be pushed further. For those oversea companies regardless their size, and regardless where they are headquartered, there are many ways in implementation Global Localization in China, ranging from direct investment, joint venturing, and market outreaching through third-parties in China like us.

On the other hand, more and more Chinese companies are starting to set up R & D arms, manufacture facilities oversea, and even perform merge and acquire operations with oversea companies. Huawei among many other local dominators have R & D centers in Silicon Valley, India and Russia, TCL acquires Alcatel¡¯s mobile phone operations, and Haier operates its freezer manufacture facilities in South Carolina. Such phenomena we call it Local Globalization. Opposite to those eight-hundred-pound gorillas, for those small to media size companies in China, it is indeed unrealistic to do the similar things. However, there are alternative solutions for them not to be left behind by Local Globalization, and we are here to help

That is why the mission of System Design Frontier is to Enable Your Local Globalization and Global Localization
